Christmas Fun
Fourth Class had an exciting, creative and hard-working start to the year!
In History, the children explored local heritage with Martin Curley on an autumn trail to Mehambee Dolmen, bringing the past to life right on our doorstep.
Science was full of discovery as pupils created working lung models and carried out force experiments, including a toy ramp to test friction and a balloon rocket to investigate thrust.
Our Art lessons were bursting with colour through autumn leaf work in oil pastels and painted seasonal trees. Wellbeing, PE and the Skipathon have been enjoyed so far also. In English, the class enjoyed learning and performing new poems with great expression and enthusiasm. In Geography, we explored the provinces and counties of Ireland and followed the fascinating journey of the River Shannon from source to sea.
Maths involved lots of hands-on strategy work using concrete materials and fun games to build confidence and understanding. Music was another highlight, with everyone enjoying vocal warm-ups, body percussion, rhythm activities and tin whistle practice.
The children put in fantastic effort across every subject and should be very proud of their achievements so far!
Term 3
Our School Tour to Bay Sports
Term 3
Term 3 started with Active School’s Week. The children really enjoyed the different challenges during the week – knockout in basketball, penalty shoot outs and the Skipathon. We had visiting coaches for tag rugby and Gaelic football. We had a fun and enjoyable Sports Day and we are looking forward to our School Tour in Bay Sports!
Throughout this term, we explored explanative writing. We used the i-pads and laptops to research the information needed to write up our own each explanative texts.
We are learning about The Vikings in History and we’re performing in a Viking drama, each of us playing a different role.
We have created some amazing pieces of Art – hot air balloon craft, half-face self portraits, 3D tinfoil figures and pastel summer sunsets!
We have been busy learning some new tunes on the tin whistle
| 4th Class had a very busy Term 2. We completed group projects about Italy. We worked very well in our groups and researched all the information needed. For Seachtain na Gaeilge, we learned the ‘Haka Gaelach’ and a new dance called ‘An Dreolín’. We performed these in the hall during our céilí on Lá Glas. We took part in a Tráth na gCéist and a Kahoot quiz. We are really enjoying our Skip Around Europe challenge, as part of the Active Schools. We are working on our skipping skills and improving each day! Many children in our class took part in Music Generation, where they are learning to play the violin and other string instruments. We are already looking forward to a very busy and enjoyable Term 3 in school! |
