On Friday March 20th , 5th classes invited their grandparents to come and visit the school to get a taste of school life nowadays. They held a prayer service and then had some entertainment in the form of music, drama and dance. There was lots of goodies provided by the children themselves for aftewards in the hall. A huge thank you to the ladies from the Parents’ Association who came in to serve the tea and coffee. It was a roaring success. Have a look below at all of the glamorous grannies and not forgetting the grandads!
Cloonakilla attend first ever Chess Tournament
We are delighted to share some exciting news about our school chess teams. Our after-school chess players, led by Ms Dowling, have been busy putting their skills and expertise to the test by taking part in a chess league tournament, held after school and during some lunch times. There were many impressive games played, with checkmates, clever tactics and even a few hard-fought stalemates along the way! Above all else, we were most impressed by the level of respect shown by all players – the true essence of chess. Throughout the league, our students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, treating one another kindly, playing fairly and showing respect in both victory and defeat. Following the conclusion of the league, two school chess teams have now been selected.
Buds Chess Team (4th Class), made up of: Michael, Anvi, Samuel, Szymon, Wyatt, Zoe, Noa and Keira.
Masters Chess Team (5th & 6th Class), made up of: Aaron, Felix, Anthony A, Anthony W, Kaya, Róisín, Aoife and Darragh.
A huge congratulations to our two chess teams, the Buds Teamand the Masters Team, who made history on March 5th as the first players to represent Cloonakilla in a chess competition. They competed at Coosan NS, enjoying a wonderful day playing against teams from Coosan, St Mary’s, Comans Wood, Brideswell and even a school from North Tipperary! Our players had an amazing experience – they defended against Scholar’s Mate attacks, escaped tricky situations thanks to stalemates, achieved brilliant checkmates themselves and witnessed some incredible strategic plays throughout the day. They played with focus, skill and most importantly, wonderful manners and behaviour, representing our school beautifully.
Our Recent Art Exhibition
Our Images Art Exhibition was a great success with €933 raised over the two days. We will use this money to buy equipment for our Sensory / Calm areas in the school. Many thanks to all of you who contributed.
Say Yes to Languages
We’re excited to share that our school has been accepted to take part in the Say Yes to Languages scheme! Over the next ten weeks, our 5th and 6th class students will have the chance to learn French. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to discover a new language, explore French culture and have fun while learning words, phrases and conversations they can use every day.
