Principal’s Address

Welcome to Cloonakilla National School

Cloonakilla N.S. is a vibrant Catholic co-educational primary school located in south County Roscommon, just outside Athlone. Our school community is made up of 16 mainstream class teachers, 6 Special Education Teachers, 6 Special Needs Assistants, a dedicated caretaker and secretary, and an administrative principal. Together, we work to provide a caring, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment for all our pupils.

We are also delighted to share that two new special classes will open in September 2026, further enhancing the inclusive nature of our school and allowing us to better meet the diverse needs of our pupils and community.

Our committed and talented staff deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, enriched by a wide variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. In addition to their classroom learning, children have opportunities to participate in Gaelic football, soccer, tag rugby, basketball, cross-country, swimming, chess, Lego club, tin whistle, quiz teams, the Green Schools Programme, Active School Flag, Wellbeing Committee, Coiste Gaelbhratach, Tech Team, Student Council, STEM initiatives and liturgical celebrations.

At Cloonakilla N.S., we are dedicated to nurturing the intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical development of every child. We strive to create a happy, safe, and supportive environment where all children are encouraged to reach their full potential. Our school ethos is built on respect, kindness, and inclusion, where every child is valued, cared for, and celebrated.

The close partnership between staff, parents, the Board of Management, and the Parents’ Association ensures that Cloonakilla N.S. continues to thrive as a positive and welcoming school community. We take pride in working together to ensure that all pupils are cherished equally and that our school remains a place of openness, learning, and growth.

Thank you for visiting our website. We hope it gives you a sense of the wonderful spirit and energy that define our school.

Kind regards,
Keith Kelly
