Senior Infants-Term 1 2023/24

The children in Senior Infants have completed lots of fun activities this term. We created Autumn handprint art, painted concentric circles and drew self portraits.

In Aistear we completed activities about our hobbies, birthday parties and Autumn. We are being very creative during Halloween Aistear. We are dressing up as witches and wizards and creating potions, writing our own potions and designing costumes.

We made personal timelines in History. We learned about the people who work in our school and their roles. We drew birds-eye view maps of our school.

For Autumn and Halloween, we created skeletons, jack-o-lanterns and drew our own scarecrows! We learned about the Sycamore tree. We wrote sentences about the squirrel and completed a step-by-step drawing of a squirrel.

We used our Maths eyes during Maths Week. We looked for 2D shapes in the classroom and at home. We played Maths games with 6th Class and we learned the poems “10 Fat Sausages”, “5 Little Ducks” and “5 Little Pumpkins”.

Term 3

Senior Infants had a great time working on their Aistear themes of The Zoo and The Restaurant. They enjoyed the role play area where they were very busy chefs, waiters etc.

In Art, the children painted beautiful cherry blossom trees.  They listened to the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and drew lovely baskets of fruit for Handa. They created colourful stained glass windows to honour Mary in the month of May. We talked about the importance of staying safe on the roads and learned the ‘Safe Cross Code.’

We are enjoying our GAA sessions with our new coach Alan. We are learning new skills and games in his training sessions.

Term 2 Senior Infants

This term Senior Infants enjoyed the Aistear themes of “School”, “Shopping” and “Jack and the Beanstalk.” The children engaged in role-play as teachers and pupils. They designed school bags and, in Small World, they created Jack’s house, the beanstalk and the Giant’s castle.

The children loved learning about our country, Ireland, and Italy. They learned many interesting facts about Italy. They created their own Italian bunting.

We are focusing on the seasons, in particular, the season of Spring. The children painted beautiful bluebells.  They created seasonal trees by finger painting on leaves.

The children are engaging very well in Literacy Lift Off and are enjoying reading different books each day.

Term 1 Senior Infants

Senior Infants had great fun taking part in our different Aistear activities.  For our Autumn theme they created autumn paintings and poems.  The children enjoyed creating potions and spells in our Hallowe’en Aistear. They had a great time taking part in nature walks, European Sports Day and Amber Flag celebrations.  They enjoyed our different Maths Week activities and loved our outdoor maths trails.  Well done to all pupils for using their ‘maths eyes.’

Our Nature Walk.

Our Nature walk was on the 6th of October. We saw nettles, dock leaves, delicious blackberries, and lots of trees and birds.

Digital Technologies.

The Senior Infants pupils are busy learning coding! The pupils are creating correctly sequenced algorithms. They are accurately entering their algorithm into a Bee-Bot and using logical reasoning to debug their algorithm or code if required. Then they share this work with an audience of their peers!
