An Aluminium tree “The Tree of Life”.
Cork artists Eithne Ring and Liam Lacy designed and constructed the “Tree of Life” which is hanging in the main corridor of our new school. It is a cast aluminium tree depicting the River Shannon with twelve circular cast aluminium panels with images relating to the school’s ethos and local history. Included are the local scenes of the Meehambee Dolman, St. Peter and Paul’s Church, and Athlone castle. The children and staff have really enjoyed recognising and relating to these panels. We in Cloonakilla N.S. feel very privileged to have this amazing piece of art work and are sure many generations of people will enjoy it for years to come.
A Mosaic “The School in the Meadow”.
Dublin artist Elaine Prunty designed and constructed the beautiful mosaic titled, “The School in the Meadow” for the outside wall of our new school. She used thousands of pieces of hand-cut glass to create a mosaic that represents our school children. The children’s own art work is incorporated into the clothes design. The children are positioned life size with a mirror face to reflect them as they grow and progress through our school. All the flowers are individual –no two are the same.
