As you all know, Ms.Shanagher has made a great contribution to our school in so many ways.
Over the last eight years that Ms.Shanagher has worked here she has helped many children. I myself remember Ms.Shanagher teaching me my phonics in Junior Infants. She has helped many others with English, Maths and numerous other things.
One thing is for sure, Ms.Shanagher will be greatly remembered and missed by all pupils and staff here at Cloonakilla. Last of all I would to say thank you Ms.Shanagher. Enjoy you retirement and thank you for everything.
Junior and Senior Infants went to Glendeer Pet Farm on their school tour.
The weather was kind to us and the children had great sport all day. In the morning we held a variety of races – sprints, egg and spoon races, sack races and two-legged races. The morning session ended with the annual 6th class v teachers Tug-of-War.
In the afternoon the teachers set up a variety of stations and the classes moved around to experience all the different activities. There were water games, relays, hockey drills, peg races, musical rings and lots more.
Throughout the day the classes took turns on the Bouncy Castle and the Obstacle Course, both of which were provided by the Parents’ Association.
5th and 6th classes went to Birr Activity Centre on their school tour. They had a very busy day filled with exciting activities including canoeing, rock climbing and archery.
First and Second classes had a great day at Turoe Pet Farm. In the morning they had fun in the inflatable city and later they had a tour of the farm where they learned many facts about the interesting collection of animals there. They also got a chance to rub the rabbits and feed some of the animals. They had great fun on the swings and slides and ended the day with a visit to the farm shop.
Cloonakilla NS is very proud of its garden and has won many awards in the past. This is largely due to the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the garden by Gerry.
In the spring Gerry helped 6th class plant a new vegetable patch.
We have lots of wild flowers in our special wild flower garden!
We hang up fat-balls for the birds. Lots of birds come to feed.
Our vegetable garden needs to be watered regularly. We need to pick the weeds too.
